Description

Hidden Histories of Farmington is a public, student-led walking tour that brings to light the overlooked stories that have shaped our town’s past. Taking place on May 3rd from 12:00–5:00 PM, the event will guide participants through a series of historical sites in Farmington, highlighting the town’s significant role in the abolitionist movement, the Underground Railroad, and the Amistad case. Each stop will offer engaging, research-based insights designed to make local history accessible, meaningful, and relevant to today.

This event is proudly part of the Being Human Festival, a nationwide celebration of the humanities led by the National Humanities Center. As part of this larger initiative, Hidden Histories of Farmington contributes to a broader effort to connect communities through history, storytelling, and public scholarship.

In addition to the walking tour, the program will feature a guest presentation by Darlene Kascak, the Education Coordinator for the Institute for American Indian Studies Museum and Research Center, and opportunities to engage with local organizations. Designed to be free and accessible to the public, the event invites community members of all ages to explore, reflect on, and connect with the histories that continue to shape Farmington today.
