15th "Walk in the Woods" for Parkinson's

The Torrington Area Parkinson’s Support Group (TAPSG) will host its 15th “Walk in the Woods” for Parkinson’s at White Memorial Conservation Center, 80 Whitehall Road in Litchfield, CT on Sunday, September 20, 2026. Registration is at noon, and the walk steps off at 1:00 PM along three routes of .5, 1.0 and 2.0 miles. Proceeds from the event will benefit area people with Parkinson’s disease and the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, which funds research grants to improve treatments and find a cure for Parkinson’s disease. 

Parkinson’s disease is a chronic, degenerative, neurological disease that affects over a million people in the U.S. TAPSG addresses the illness by holding monthly support group meetings, supporting research for better treatments, prevention and a cure, educating our communities and engaging health care providers who focus on Parkinson’s disease and the needs of those affected.  

Walk in the Woods donations may be made directly to TAPSG, which hopes to raise $25,000 to fund local exercise programs specific to the needs of PD patients and a communication program to support and enhance strategies for speaking, swallowing and cognitive clarity. 

Elevating community awareness of Parkinson’s disease through an afternoon of exercise, entertainment and outdoor fun at the beautiful White Memorial Conservation Center, TAPSG aims to contribute to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for PD Research. To date, TAPSG has donated over $140,000 for Parkinson’s research.

Families may picnic on the grounds throughout the afternoon.  Field activities, baked goods, raffle prizes and silent auction items will be available on-site along with face-painting and children’s games. It’s fun for the whole family.
