Mari Skarp-Bogli – In and Of the Land
The Gallery at Founders Hall (CT State Northwestern) is proud to present the latest in our Alumni Focus Series:
Mari Skarp-Bogli – In and Of the Land
In this collection, the artist reimagines the landscape as both subject and material. Through a minimalist approach, each work distills nature into its essential forms—horizons, textures, and muted tonalities—while incorporating elements sourced directly from the land. Earth pigments, soil, and organic fibers are layered into the surface, transforming the artwork into a physical extension of the environment it reflects. These pieces invite viewers into a space of quiet contemplation, where simplicity reveals complexity and materiality speaks of permanence and impermanence. The work is not only about observing nature but engaging with it—honoring its cycles, its fragility, and its enduring presence. In doing so, the artist creates a dialogue between place and perception, grounding abstraction in the tangible reality of the landscape.
