Thomas Patch: Artist and Entrepreneur in Eighteenth-Century Florence

Known primarily as a caricature artist, Thomas Patch (1725-1782) in fact engaged in a much wider array of activities. He was a landscape painter, experimental printmaker, and a dealer of antiquities and old master paintings. He was also among the first scholars of early Renaissance art. This exhibition will explore the many aspects of Patch’s art, life, and associations with the British community of diplomats, tourists, artists, and collectors in Italy.

An infamous tale, Sweeney Todd, an unjustly exiled barber, returns to nineteenth century London, seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett, a resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop, above which, he opens a new barber practice. Mrs. Lovett's luck sharply shifts when Todd's thirst for blood inspires the integration of an ingredient into her meat pies that has the people of London lining up... and the carnage has only just begun!

Ryan will open each group with a brief sound meditation to help participants get grounded, then share his own spiritual experiences, struggles, and self-expression practices. This group is held in an open forum style. Participants are encouraged to share their experiences, challenges, and joys with no pressure to do so. Sharing within the group is optional.

Ryan wishes to serve others walking a spiritual path after hearing similar struggles from others on their journey. Please read through the group rules before attending. These rules must be honored to provide safety, common ground, and respect for other participants.

1. Spiritual Support Groups are confidential–what is shared in the group stays within the group. Do not share names, stories, and details about attendees outside of a group that could be used to identify them. This is an informal drop in event for people who knit, crochet, sew, cross stitch, embroider, or create with fabric. Learn a new skill or get feedback from fellow crafters! Limited materials supplied, please bring your own project you're working on.

The Isham-Terry House is a time capsule of genteel life in turn-of-the-century Hartford. In 1896, Dr. Oliver Isham purchased the 1854 Italianate house for his medical practice and as a home for himself, his parents and his three sisters. His sisters, Julia and Charlotte, lived in the house until their deaths in the 1970s as urban renewal claimed many of the houses in the once-grand neighborhood. Explore this beloved family home to learn about the booming industries and culture of Hartford in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, understand medical practice and public health at this time, and learn more about the Isham and Terry families through the items they owned.

Special Tour: Hill-Stead’s Keepsakes & Curiosities. Natural artifacts, souvenirs from faraway lands, and personal mementoes abound at Hill-­Stead. These intriguing, and sometimes weird, tiny treasures illuminate a different collecting mentality than the world-renown artworks in the museum. In this tour visitors will get an opportunity to leisurely and closely view objects that are rarely shown. Objects will rotate so that each tour is unique. Note: To take this tour, visitors need to be comfortable with stairs.

Join us on Black Friday for a refreshing outdoor experience at the historic Wilcox-Bushley Homestead, where you’ll have the opportunity to explore the West District Nature Preserve, typically closed to the public. Enjoy a leisurely one-mile hike through the preserve, taking in the peaceful sights and sounds of late fall in Connecticut.

For those looking for a more challenging adventure, we invite you to hike the Mountain Spring Nature Trail. This invigorating trail offers a more strenuous experience with rewarding views.

Both hikes will be hosted by Farmington Land Trust volunteers. Opt-outside with us!
