School’s OUT! Summer Camp @ the Mattatuck Museum

Join in on summer fun at the Mattatuck Museum through our School’s OUT! Summer Adventures Camp. This year we are hosting 6 weeks of summer camp — with new themes and experiences each week. During these week-long camps children will be immersed in the Museum’s galleries while learning about history and developing their art skills with unique materials and techniques.

Camp hours – 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM; FREE Before and After Care from 8 AM – 9 AM and 3:30 PM – 5:00 PM.

Support provided by American Savings Foundation and Post University.

Summer camp payment and registrations are being accepted on a rolling basis, however, the refund policy (no refunds after May 21) remains in effect, even if registering or paying past that date. The registration form MUST be completed prior to the first day the child will be participating in camp.

Join musicologist Dr. Gil Harel as he discusses Mozart’s later years, including his relationship with fellow Freemasons, his mysterious illness, and the Requiem that he was composing when he died. Learn about the style of music that thrived during Mozart’s life and in Mozart’s hands, as well as his gifts that went far beyond melody.

Paint a terra cotta pot in your own style to create a functional piece of art! All participants will receive potted flower at the end of the session. All materials provided.

“I Feel the Earth Move: The Music of Carole King,” is a captivating musical tribute led by the national, multi-award-winning Kala Farnham. From chart-topping hits to intimate ballads, “I Feel the Earth Move” is a celebration of King’s influential career, paying homage to King’s groundbreaking contributions to the music industry and capturing the essence of her remarkable journey as the most successful female songwriter of the latter half of the 20th century.

Each unique pairing will be curated and narrated by a different member of the Museum’s curatorial department and offer a distinctive perspective on the Mattatuck Collection in relation to the works and story of Georgia O’Keeffe.

Beginning in June, the Mattatuck Museum will be open on Mondays! As The Monday Museum, we’re thrilled to offer our visitors a cultural destination at the start of the week—whether you’re looking to kick off your Monday with a movie, join a tour, or enjoy a quiet moment with art.

Learn more about Indigenous artist Fritz Scholder (Luiseño) through two documentaries that dive into his life, artistic practice, and ideologies. Multiple pieces of Scholder's work will be on display at the Mattatuck Museum over the course of the next year. 

Enjoy two themed cocktails created by a talented bartender from Litchfield Distillery while enjoying an evening with Mattatuck Museum Chief Curator Keffie Feldman. Learn more about the art on display in The Body Imagined, and hear from artists featured in the exhibition.

This summer, the Mattatuck Museum invites the community to unwind, connect, and dance under the stars with Friday Nights @ The MATT—a lively new series of evening programs designed to bring people together through music, movement, and art. With extended gallery hours, rooftop views, and vibrant energy, Fridays at the Museum promise a perfect blend of culture and fun in the heart of downtown Waterbury. The Museum’s Rooftop Terrace offers the perfect setting to relax after the workweek for Happy Hour @ The MATT, debuting Friday, June 13 from 4 until 6 PM, with stunning views of Waterbury’s Green and historic downtown skyline. Salsa Nights offer an exciting destination for locals and visitors alike, on Fridays, May 30, June 13, July 18, and August 22 from 6 until 9 PM, with the option to explore the Museum’s galleries, which will remain open until 7 PM on Salsa Nights. 

Join us on the only rooftop terrace in downtown Waterbury for a night full of dance, music, and fun, with Alisa of Alisa’s House of Salsa! With over 20 years of experience as a certified dance instructor, Alisa will lead a free lesson for all, followed by dancing the night away!

Food Available: Sweet Bella’s will be open late.

Children aged 0-3 and their caregivers to invited to enjoy time in the Museum galleries for some art and history fun while practicing developmental, social, and mobility skills- all while the museum is closed to the public! A museum educator will facilitate storytime and 30 minutes of playtime in the galleries with an opportunity to mingle with other parents and caregivers.
